My goal is to create exciting street dance portraits shot in downtown Toronto’s Graffiti Alley. A popular tourist destination, Graffiti Alley is known for its urban vibe and popping colours. My model, choreographer Romeo Casellas, uses his original dance moves and personal style to add edginess and attitude to each image. The result is 10 visually visceral images with a 3-dimensional feel.
Inspiration for these images comes from a dance video by Toronto photographer Raph Nogal. He photographed a street dancer busting amazing moves against a graffiti wall in Toronto’s west end. The dancer’s high energy and gritty urban backdrop inspired me to create something similar, putting my own spin on my images.
